Association Between Bitter Taste Receptor Phenotype and Clinical Outcomes Among Patients With COVID-19
Journal of the American Medical Association
Published May 25, 2021
This large cohort study found that people with low bitter taste receptor sensitivity were more likely to contract COVID-19, require hospitalization, and experience longer symptoms compared to tasters and supertasters. The findings suggest bitter taste receptor phenotype is linked to innate immune protection and clinical outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 infection.
